Muara Baru Flat Occupants Need Clean Water

As many as 76 families consist of around 250 people, who previously occupied the west side of Pluit Reservoir and have been relocated to Muara Baru Flat, North Jakarta, are lacking of clean water. To fulfill the needs for clean water, they had to buy water from mobile water sellers.

We liked living here. But if there’s no water and we had to pick it up from downstairs, it is difficult for us

Jumianti (32), one of Muara Baru Flat occupants who lives in Blok 11, admitted that she no longer feels like to stay in the flat because there is water supply to her block since Monday (11/10).

“We liked living here. But if there’s no water and we had to pick it up from downstairs, it is difficult for us,” she lamented, Tuesday (11/11).

Jalan Karet Bivak Raya Collapsed

According to Jumianti, during this month the party from Flats Management Unit (UPRS) gives the flat occupants water for free. However, she prefers to pay for the water instead of not getting water supply to her unit.

Responding on this matter, Head of Jakarta Housing and Government’s Buildings Department UPRS Area 1, Maharyadi, explained that at this time there is no direct connection yet from the water company to flat units to supply the water. To fulfill flat occupants’ needs for water, his party uses water tank with a capacity of 100,000 liters. The water is supplied by water truck periodically between 2-3 days, depends on the tank’s condition.

“Indeed, the tank’s filling was late yesterday. But after heard the report, this afternoon I have given order to fill the tank,” he stated.

Maharyadi guarantees that the water supply to Muara Baru Flat occupants would return to normal after the tank is filled. In the future, he promised to monitor the water supply tighter to prevent this problem from happening again.

“I will ask my ranks to prevent this problem from happening again. I hope the Muara Baru Flat occupants could understand,” he expressed.
